About

Taste is difficult to describe at times. I find that my tastes have changed so much over the years. My first glass of wine was a Pinot Grigio. I hated it. I continued drinking it because it was all I knew, and I wanted to be a wine drinker. I tried Riesling not long after and it was my wine of choice for many years. I found myself going in the opposite direction when I tried Moscato. That phase was the shortest, when I discovered New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc. It's currently my "favorite" white wine. I put that in quotes, because as I am growing and discovering more wines, I find other wines competing with it, such as Chardonnays from the Russian River Valley, and Oregon, and on a related note, white burgundy. This is surprising for me because I have never been a fan of Chardonnay. Perhaps I will start to enjoy Pinot Grigiots!

In short, this blog is for the every person out there trying to figure out what wine is closest to the wine they like. I'm not going to pretend like I know about wine pairings, or that I'm a sommelier; that's not why I started this blog (and plus, I drink wine on its own, without anything to eat with it more often than not). I started this blog because there are a plethora of wines available on the market and whenever I go into the store, there's always something different and I never knew for sure what I would like. I'm open to drinking many wines, but I know what I like, and I know what I don't like - and I certainly don't like wasting time with "bad" wine.

I have my default wines, but I love trying new things. Here are my go-to's:

Red

I prefer full-bodied red wines, such as California Cabernets and Argentinian Malbecs. I recently tried a Pinot Noir, which I don't usually go for, that was really good. I'm a lot less picky about reds than I am about whites.

White

I am a bit more picky about whites, and prefer New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs (Marlborough) and Chardonnay from the Russian River Valley. If I am out at a restaurant, I will only order either of these.

Favorites:
Whitehaven Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand
Puligny Montrachet White Burgundy
Low to No Oak Chardonnay

Sparkling/Champagne

I prefer brut over sweet, and will drink a sparkling rose. I really enjoy champagne and prosecco. I'm less likely to buy cava or very sweet sparkling wines.

Pink

I really enjoy white zinfandels. I find that they have become less available in my area for some reason, but I like white zin more than any other "blush" wines I have tried. I find they perform nicely as well (aka, give me a great buzz).

A note about rose: I don't like rose... at all. I even went to a wine tasting so that I could expand my knowledge and maybe find one I liked. I didn't! As noted above, however, I do like sparkling rose's.
